Cecil D. Stanbrough, 95, of Greene and formerly of Hawkeye, died Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Oelwein on March 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dave Byrd officiating. Interment will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Hawkeye Cemetery with military rites conducted by Thomas E. Woods Post #223, American Legion of Sumner and Arnold-Rogers Post #223, American Legion of Hawkeye. There will be a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding the services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made in his name to the First Baptist Church in Oelwein. 

Cecil Dwight, son of Orla and Bessie (Craig) Stanbrough was born September 16, 1921, in Aredale, Iowa. He received his education in the Harlan Community Schools. Cecil honorably served  in the United States Army under General Patton from 1942 to 1946 during World War II. Following the war, Cecil married Jettie Lee Oliver on July 5, 1946, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He farmed in the West Union and Hawkeye areas until retiring from dairy and crop farming in 1987. Cecil was baptized in 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Elgin. His wife, Jettie passed away February 19, 1999. Cecil later married Irene Reed on October 28, 2000, and moved from the family farm in Hawkeye to Greene, where he was able to stay in his home until he entered the hospital on March 16, 2017. Cecil was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sumner for many years where he held deacon and trustee positions. He later became a member of the First Baptist Church in Oelwein, where he was a current member. Cecil enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, playing horseshoes, playing cards, gardening, but most especially enjoyed spending time with neighbors, friends, his children and grandson.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Irene of Greene; three children, Olin D. Stanbrough of San Antonio, Texas, Velma (Steven) Mosher of Sumner and Marlys Frahm of Hudson; one grandson, Brian Mosher of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Pauline Parks of Hampton; one brother, Dean Stanbrough of Apache Junction, Arizona; nine sisters-in-law, Mattie McCarty, Maggie, Sylvia, and Sue Oliver, Lavone Walters and Delores Osborne, and Gert, Carolyne, and Marsha Stanbrough; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Jettie, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Darrell, Warren, Earl, Don and Clarence; and two sisters, Avis Reed and Toddie Poplin.
